This past weekend, March 31-April 1, the Trojans travelled north for the St. Francis Intersectional Regatta, sailed on the San Francisco City Front.   Saturday morning, the team was greeted by rain and a southwest breeze that ranged from 15 to 28 knots, with big puffs throughout the day.  The Trojans, especially the women’s team, were challenged by the big breeze with both Kelsey Rupp/Alexis Tarakjian in A and Mallory Schluter/Olivia Gebelein in B capsizing in a race.  Max Hutcheson/Peggy Bobbin, in A for the co-ed team and Danny Kivlovitz/Erik Samuels/Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon in B, finished the day strong with all top tens in the last set.  Sunday there was more big breeze, with gusts up to 25 knots starting in the morning.  The women’s team seemed to figure out the ebb current and used the knowledge to their advantage, with B division posting a string of four top-five finishes.  In the end the Trojans finished sixth overall in the co-ed fleet of thirty-one teams, and the women’s team finished second amongst the women’s teams and 11th overall.  Good luck to the team as they gear up to try and qualify for team race, fleet race, and women’s nationals this month!
