Saturday, November 15:

With 24 teams on the Varsity course and 24 teams on the JV course, this year’s Fall Pacific Coast Championship was a huge event and fortunately had great conditions for the majority of the time, boasting low 70’s for temperature and breeze at about 6-12 knots for the vast portion of the regatta.

Saturday started out with an early morning south easterly breeze that quickly clocked right and began to build. The three division varsity course quickly got into the groove on rotating between boats, however around 2:30pm, the breeze started to die down a bit.

The JV course was competing with 3 race sets and saw similar conditions on their course.

There were no protests filed on day 1.

A huge thank you to the co-PRO help of Carson Shevitz and Kathleen Baushke along with assistance from UCSB Sailing Team alumni Scott Deardorff, Jeff Grange, and John Long. Nick Ewenson from Laser Performance was also on site to help out with mark set.

University of Hawaii led after day 1.

After a quick conference meeting Sunday morning, racing got under way promptly at 10:30am. The breeze had filled nicely and continued to build throughout the afternoon into the 8-12 range. Racing was tight between the top two teams of Hawaii and the Stanford women’s team, however Hawaii took care of business down the stretch and won the three division and two division regattas. A total of 9 races were completed for all three divisions and one request for redress was filed and denied.

On the JV course, 9 races were completed for A & B divisions with UCSB taking 1st-4th and Cal Maritime taking 5th.

Congratulations to Hawaii on winning the 2014 Fall Pacific Coast Championship!
